THE SIRENS
In Greek mythology, the Sirens were known to lure sailors and their ships to a rocky demise with their enticing songs. Both sad and sweet, their melodies were unfortunately irresistible to those who heard it.
The SAT semi-chorus in this work represents the Sirens – mysterious, seductive, and manipulative. Their part is coloristic and essential to the overall performance. The SATB chorus represents the sailors who are unfortunate enough to hear the Siren’s song. Their observation of the ocean and its grandeur juxtaposed against the hypnotic and alluring lines of the Sirens leaves their fate to be determined.
Voicing: SAT semi-chorus/SATB chorus, div., a cappella
