MÉLODIES DE LA ROSE

No. 1 - ROSE de la TERRE (ROSE OF THE EARTH)

No. 2 - ROSE RONDE (YOU DIZZY ROSE)

Rainer Maria Rilke is regarded as one the most prolific poets writing several volumes of poetry in German and French.  Setting nearly 400 poems in French, Rilke wrote Roses, a cycle of poetry in the last four years of his life.  These writings challenge the relationship between the world and its objects asking for less materialistic desires.

The two movements may be performed separately or together.  If performed as a set, attacca between movements.

Each work has its own identity.  “Rose de la Terre” explores the simplicity of the rose and its seemingly simple beauty that symbolizes affection and romance.

“Rose Ronde” is a playful, whimsical, pseudo-tongue twister that continuously questions where the rose starts only to realize it is the world that turns which does not disturb the roses center, thus allowing it to entrance those who look upon it.
