ADORO TE, DEVOTE

Winner of the 2013 Wisconsin Choral Directors Association Student Composition Competition

Commissioned by The Master Singers of Eau Claire, WI, this was the third of three pieces written for this ensemble's 2012-2013 concert season.  The hymn-tune of the piece comes from Saint Thomas Aquinas (heard in the opening solo).  I wanted this piece to be a culmination of what I had accomplished in my year as Composer-in-Residence for The Master Singers.  Dr. Schwartzhoff, conductor, grew up when Catholic masses were in Latin and served as an altar boy.  With this sentiment in mind, the piece almost wrote itself.  The chant/melody was quite easy to set, but getting out of arranging a melody became the more difficult aspect and a new melody came to fruition.

Voicing: SATB with divisi, Tenor solo, a cappella

Premiered by The Master Singers, Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, director (Eau Claire, WI)
